Joseph Martin McFadden was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 9, 1975, to Irish parents. His acting career began at the age of 12 when a talent scout from the detective show ‘Taggart’ recruited him from Holyrood Secondary School for a role as a murder victim’s son. He subsequently appeared in Scottish stage, film, and television productions, including a prominent role as Prentice McHoan in ‘The Crow Road’, for which he earned a BAFTA nomination. Following these initial successes, McFadden relocated to London, where he joined the original West End cast of the musical ‘Rent’, playing the role of Mark Cohen.

Throughout his career, McFadden has participated in numerous notable stage productions, performing for The Royal Court and the National Theatre Of Scotland. He also took on the title role of ‘Aladdin’ at The Old Vic theatre, alongside Sir Ian McKellen.
