Joel González

Joel González Bonilla, born on September 30, 1989, in Figueres, Spain, is a distinguished taekwondo practitioner whose career is marked by significant athletic achievements at both national and international levels. González began his taekwondo journey at his father’s gym, Tae Sport, laying the foundation for a professional career. He further pursued academic endeavors, earning a degree in administration from the Technical University of Cartagena. His commitment to both his sport and education characterizes his disciplined approach.

González’s career highlights include numerous medals across various prestigious competitions. He achieved an Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 Games in the 58 kg division, followed by a bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics in the 68 kg category, showcasing his adaptability across different weight classes. Beyond the Olympics, González has secured two World Championship titles in 2009 (Copenhagen) and 2011 (Gyeongju), both in the 58 kg weight class, and a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships (Chelyabinsk) in the 63 kg division.
