Born on February 7, 1998, in Ulsan, South Korea, Kim Ga-eun began her badminton career at an early age. She represented South Korea at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, in 2014, signaling her emergence as a promising talent. Her professional journey officially began in 2015, and by 2016, she was selected to join the Korean national team, a significant milestone in her career development. Her early career also saw her securing bronze medals at the BWF World Junior Championships in 2016 for both Girls’ Singles and Girls’ Doubles in Bilbao, demonstrating her versatility across different formats.
Throughout her career, Kim Ga-eun has achieved multiple successes in BWF World Tour events. She secured her first World Tour title at the 2018 Hyderabad Open (Super 100) and followed it with another win at the 2019 Lingshui China Masters (Super 100). Further showcasing her competitive prowess, she won the 2023 Korea Masters (Super 300) and the 2024 Korea Open (Super 500). Her consistent performance led to her participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics within the women’s singles category. Kim Ga-eun also played a key role in the South Korean national team’s success, contributing to a gold medal at the 2022 Uber Cup in Bangkok and another gold at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou for the Women’s Team event.
Kim Ga-eun’s career also includes several silver medals, such as those from the 2018 Lingshui China Masters, the 2019 U.S. Open (Super 300), and the 2023 Australian Open (Super 500). In mixed team events, she earned silver medals at the Asia Mixed Team Championships in 2017 and 2023, along with a silver at the 2020 Asia Team Championships. Her career prize money totals $261,563, reflecting her sustained presence and success in high-level tournaments. She currently holds a World Rank of 18 in Women’s Singles and a World Tour Rank of 31, maintaining her position among the top players.
