The towering John Lukic is a goalkeeping coach and former professional footballer, who played in goal from 1978 to 2001 for Leeds United and Arsenal. He made 596 league appearances altogether over his playing career with the two clubs, spending two spells with each.
Born and raised in Chesterfield, Lukic joined Leeds United as schoolboy in 1978 and made his debut for the senior team in 1979, going on to make 146 appearances for the Yorkshire side. He moved to Arsenal in 1983 for £75k, and during the 1984-85 season he was the club’s No. 1, helping the side win the League Cup in 1978 and the Division One title in 1989. After 233 appearances for the Gunners, Lukic rejoined Leeds United for £1 million in 1990. His second spell at Elland Road saw him help Leeds win the 1991-92 First Division title. He moved back to Arsenal for a second spell in 1996, making just 18 appearances between then and his retirement from the game in 2001, aged 40. He has gone on to work as a goalkeeping coach.
