Best known for his appearances in The Lord of The Rings, John Noble is an Australian actor and theater director. He has appeared in numerous television series including All Saints, Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, Elementary, and 24.
Born in 1948, Noble enjoyed a decorated career as a teacher and artistic director for several decades. His first prominent acting role came in the Australian TV series All Saints in 1998, appearing as Dr. John Madsen in over 30 episodes. Following recurring roles in Home and Away and Pirate Islands: The Lost Treasure of Fiji, he debuted on American television as Walter Bishop in Fringe. Noble went on to appear in 100 episodes and won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for his performance. Noble’s additional television credits include 24, The Good Wife, Devil’s Playground, Sleepy Hallow, Salvation, and Elementary. He has also worked as a voice actor, appearing in Transformers Prime and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as well as video games L.A. Noire and Batman: Arkham Knight.
Noble’s most iconic role is undoubtedly Denethor in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He appeared in both The Two Towers and The Return of The King, and the cast was recognized with several awards. Noble was diagnosed with Osteoporosis in 2012 and founded his own charity, Noble Bones. Recently turning 70 years old, John Noble is a unique talent with a career that shows no signs of stopping.
