Jonathan Allen was born on January 16, 1995, in Anniston, Alabama. His childhood involved moving across several states before settling in Ashburn, Virginia, where he attended Stone Bridge High School. A highly touted recruit, Allen played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2013 to 2016. During his time at Alabama, he excelled, starting in his sophomore year and contributing to the team’s national championship victory in 2015. His senior year in 2016 was particularly distinguished, as he earned several major defensive player awards, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and Lombardi Award. Allen was also recognized as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous All-American.

Allen entered the NFL draft in 2017, where he was selected by the Washington Redskins as the 17th overall pick. He signed a four-year rookie contract and quickly made an impact, recording his first career sack in his rookie season. Despite a Lisfranc injury that year, he returned to start all 16 games in 2018, demonstrating his resilience and skill. He continued to be a key player for the Washington franchise, which was later rebranded as the Washington Football Team and then the Washington Commanders. In 2020, he transitioned to defensive tackle, further showcasing his versatility within the team’s defensive scheme.

His consistent performance led to a four-year contract extension worth $72 million in 2021. Allen received his first Pro Bowl selection in 2021 and a second consecutive selection in 2022. He was recognized among the NFL’s top players, ranking 88th in 2022 and 52nd in 2023 on the NFL Top 100 Players list. In 2025, after eight seasons with the Washington Commanders, Allen signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings, marking a new chapter in his professional career.
