The fabulous broadcaster Jonathan Pearce is a sports commentator, best known for his work on the BBC, and BT Sport, as well as on the combat competition show Robot Wars. He is a regular on Match of the Day and Radio Five Live.
Born and raised in Plymouth, Pearce started his career in broadcasting working at BBC Radio Bristol. He became a sports editor in his early twenties and in 1987 took a job at Capital Radio. He commentated on a number of Premier League games for Sky Sports during the 1992-93 season and later signed with the newly launched Channel 5 in 1997 as their lead football commentator. Between 1998 and 2004 he commentated on the Robot Wars TV series (which was initially shown on BBC Two and then later moved to Channel 5).
Pearce joined BBC Radio Five Live in 2002, going on to present their midweek sports show Sport on Five. In 2004 he became a regular commentator on Match of the Day, and then later also started working for BT Sport. He has also lent his voice to the video games Sensible Soccer, and Action Soccer, and has commentated for the BBC game show Hole in the Wall.
