World Cup winner Jonny Bairstow is an English cricketer who has played for his country in all formats. He plays domestic cricket for Yorkshire and has competed in a number of Twenty20 events, including the Indian Premier League with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings. Bairstow bats right-handed and is a wicket-keeper-batsman. With Ben Stokes, he broke the world record for the greatest sixth-wicket stand in Test cricket: 399 against South Africa during the 2015-16 tour. In 2019, he was a member of England’s World Cup-winning squad.
In 2011, Bairstow made his One Day International (ODI), Twenty20 International (T20I), and Test debuts. After the England v Sri Lanka Test series ended in late November 2018, Bairstow signed a short-term contract with the Kerala Kings of the T10 League in Sharjah. He helped his side win by 7 wickets by hitting 84 not out off 24 balls in his second (and final) game for the franchise that year, a new record in the format. In December 2018, he was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League.
Bairstow was named for England’s ODI series against Ireland in July 2020 and went on to make 88 runs in three games. He was chosen for the 2021-2022 Ashes series, but did not play until the Third Test, when he came in to replace the struggling Ollie Pope. In the fourth test, he batted wonderfully, making England’s only century of the series and guiding them to a tie in the final innings. In the 2022 IPL Auction, the Punjab Kings paid 6.75 crores for Baristow.
