Best known for being the subject of 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort is a former stockbroker turned motivational speaker.
Belfort was always an entrepreneur and an ambitious businessman, earning more than $20,000 during the summer after high school selling ice cream to beach-goers. He then set up a meat and seafood business, before landing a job as a trainee stockbroker at LF Rothschild. He later founded brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont, quickly becoming embroiled in fraudulent activity and schemes which saw him scam investors out of millions of dollars. During this time his lifestyle involved excessive drug use and partying, resulting in him becoming addicted to several substances and gaining a reputation for being reckless and ruthless. Stratton Oakland was under investigation throughout this time, with Belfort eventually being arrested in 1999 and serving nearly 2 years in prison. His life has become the subject of several films, most notably 2000 movie Boiler Room and 2013 release The Wolf of Wall Street.
Since his time in prison, Belfort has turned his life around and is now a writer and motivational speaker. He has run several seminar series including The Truth Behind His Success and Jordan Belfort’s Straight Line Sales Psychology through his business Global Motivation Inc. He focuses on learning from the mistakes he made during the 1990’s and the importance of business ethics in creating a sustainable company. Despite his controversial past, Belfort now uses his business knowledge and incredible life story to teach and inspire others.
