Jordan-Carmichael Subban was born on March 3, 1995, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His early career in ice hockey saw him drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. This marked a significant step in his athletic journey, following in the footsteps of his older brothers, Malcolm and P.K. Subban, who also pursued professional hockey careers. Subban developed his skills in various leagues, including the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Belleville Bulls, where he consistently demonstrated his capabilities as a defenceman. During the 2014-15 OHL season, he recorded 25 goals and 27 assists for 52 points over 63 games, highlighting his offensive contributions.
Subban’s professional career began with the Utica Comets, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, during the 2015-16 season. In his debut AHL season, he scored 11 goals and added 25 assists in 67 games. His performance earned him recognition, including being named an AHL All-Star in January 2017. Later that year, in December 2017, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. He then played for the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ AHL farm team, before signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July 2018, playing for their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. After a stint with Dornbirner EC in the EBEL during the 2019-20 season, and a break during the 2020-21 season, Subban returned to professional hockey, signing with the Hershey Bears in the AHL and also playing for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL during the 2021-22 season.
Following his hockey career, Jordan Subban channeled his competitive spirit into entrepreneurship. Notably, he founded Ujimaa, an online marketplace dedicated to supporting BIPOC- (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and women-owned businesses. This initiative reflects his commitment to social impact and economic empowerment, providing a platform for diverse entrepreneurs. Through Ujimaa, Subban aims to leverage his public profile to create meaningful opportunities and promote inclusivity within the business community, demonstrating a significant pivot from his athletic career to socially conscious business endeavors.
