Within the Welterweight division of MMA giant UFC, Jorge Masvidal has become a force to be reckoned with in recent years. Ever since his AFC debut in 2003, a swift victory by first-round knockout, Masvidal has shown unwavering commitment to his pursuit of fighting greatness, leading to a current ranking of No 4 worldwide within his division.
After dabbling with street fighting at an early age, Masvidal turned his youthful drive and energy to MMA, competing in and winning 5 consecutive bouts for AFC in 2003 and 2004, all over in the first or second round. His big break came in 2005 in the form of a surprise knockout defeat of the highly decorated Joe Lauzon, solidly pushing Masvidal into global MMA notoriety. Following another 17 victories for AFC, BodogFIGHT, Strikeforce, World Victory Road and others, Masvidal gained his hard-earned spot in UFC in 2013, winning his debut and nine subsequent bouts over the following five years. Though this period is peppered with career highlights for Masvidal, his defeat of true UFC veteran Pat Healy in 2014 and his three Performance of the Night awards will forever reserve him a place in MMA history books.
With more than 15 years of brutal victories now under his belt, it would be no mistake to bet on Masvidal spending plenty more time at the top of the Welterweight division for years to come.
