Known as one of the best wicket-keeper
batsmen in the world, Jos Buttler is the vice-captain of the England cricket
team. Buttler is also a
member of the Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Rajasthan Royals of the
Indian Premier League.
Jos, born as Joseph Charles Buttler,
began his career in Somerset, England. In 2006, he joined the King’s College
team and finished the season scoring 447 runs with a batting average of 49.66,
setting two school
records. In 2008, he
was promoted to captain of the team and topped his record with 851 runs and an
improved batting average of 94.55. In
2009, Buttler made his first-class debut playing for Somerset in the County
Championship against Lancashire. That same
year, Buttler
captained the King’s College
team again leading them to victory in the Western School Twenty20 competition.
After this performance, Buttler was awarded Young
Wisden Schools
Cricketer of the Year.
In 2010, Buttler was offered a permanent spot on the Somerset team. As Somerset’s rising player, he was awarded the NBC Denis Compton Award in both 2010 and 2011. After a successful three seasons with Somerset, Buttler signed with Lancashire. In his first championship game as a member of Lancashire, hescored 42 runs.
Jos Buttler has played an important
role on England’s international team. In 2012, he scored 30
runs against South Africa at Edgbaston,
a major contribution to the final score of 118/5. That year, he
was also invited to play for England in the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka and would
return to play in this competition in 2014 in India. He has
also enjoyed international
success in New Zealand and Australia.
