Josh Sweat

Born on March 29, 1997, in Chesapeake, Virginia, Josh Sweat attended Oscar F. Smith High School. During his junior year, he recorded 94 tackles and contributed to Oscar Smith reaching the 2013 VHSL 6A state championship game. Initially ranked as the top prospect in the country by ESPN ahead of his senior season, an ACL injury during his third game led to a temporary drop in rankings. Despite this setback, he maintained his five-star status and enrolled early at Florida State after reconstructive surgery.

At Florida State, Sweat played college football for three seasons, appearing in 37 games with 31 starts. As a freshman in 2015, he accumulated 41 tackles and 5 sacks. His sophomore year in 2016 saw him play 11 games with 41 tackles and 7 sacks. In 2017, his junior year, he played 12 games, recording 56 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He decided to forgo his senior year and declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, demonstrating consistent performance and a readiness for professional play.

Sweat was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. After several seasons in a rotational role, his career progression saw a significant turning point in 2021 when he gained a primary starting role due to a teammate’s injury. This led to his breakout season, earning him his first Pro Bowl selection. In 2022, he achieved career highs with 11.0 sacks and 48 tackles, contributing to the Eagles’ appearance in Super Bowl LVII. His tenure with the Eagles culminated in a Super Bowl LIX victory in 2024, where he recorded 2.5 sacks against the Kansas City Chiefs, solidifying his role as a key defensive player.
