Josh Thomas is an Australian comedian, actor, and writer, recognized for his contributions to television and stand-up comedy. After winning the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s RAW Comedy Competition in 2005, Josh Thomas quickly established himself as a prominent voice in stand-up comedy. The same year, he reached the finals of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s ‘So You Think You’re Funny,’ showcasing his emerging talent on an international stage. His career continued to build momentum in 2006 when he was selected for ‘The Comedy Zone,’ a prestigious showcase for emerging Australian comedians at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
In 2007, Thomas debuted his first solo show, ‘Please Like Me,’ which earned him the distinguished Melbourne Airport Award for Best Newcomer at the MICF, solidifying his presence on the comedy circuit. Thomas transitioned into television, becoming a regular and team captain for the Generation Y segment on Network 10’s popular series ‘Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation’ from 2009 to 2012, appearing in 72 episodes. He also showcased his culinary skills on ‘Celebrity MasterChef Australia.’ His creative vision expanded significantly with the development of the critically acclaimed television series ‘Please Like Me’ (2013-2016), which he created, co-wrote, and starred in for 32 episodes across ABC2 and Pivot. The series garnered widespread recognition, including a nomination for an International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series in 2014 and securing an AACTA Award for Best Television Screenplay in 2015.
Most recently, Thomas completed an international tour for his stand-up show ‘Let’s Tidy Up’ in 2024, performing across North America, Australia, New Zealand, and at the renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Demonstrating his versatile talent across different formats, he was also a featured contestant on the second season of ‘Taskmaster Australia’ in 2024, maintaining a visible and active presence across both live performance and television.
