Jun Woong-Tae

Jun Woong-Tae was born on August 1, 1995, in Seoul, South Korea. He began his athletic career in swimming before transitioning to modern pentathlon, a decision influenced by a teacher at Seoul Sports Middle School. His early career was supported by institutions such as Gwangju City Hall and the Korean Modern Pentathlon Federation, as well as his parents. He represented South Korea at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he placed 19th in the men’s individual event.

His career saw significant progression with a series of victories that secured his place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This included winning the UIPM World Cup in 2018. In the same year, he earned a gold medal at the Asian Games held in Jakarta and Palembang. He continued to achieve success with a bronze medal in the individual event at the 2019 World Championships. By July 2021, Jun Woong-Tae was ranked 4th in the UIPM Senior Global World Championships Ranking and 1st in the UIPM Senior World Cup Ranking.

A notable achievement came at the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were held in August 2021. Jun Woong-Tae secured a bronze medal in the men’s individual modern pentathlon. This marked a historic moment as it was the first Olympic medal in modern pentathlon for a competitor from South Korea. He has consistently demonstrated competitive performance at international events, participating in two Olympic Games and numerous World Championships, where he has accumulated multiple medals in various categories including team, relay, and individual events.
