Justin Hong-Kee Min was born on March 20, 1990, in Cerritos, California. He is a second-generation Korean American and graduated from Cerritos High School in 2007. Min attended Cornell University, where he earned degrees in Government and English from the College of Arts & Sciences in 2011. Prior to his acting career, Min worked as a journalist and photographer for various magazines, including assignments for the J.A.M. Awards, inVISIBLE, and The Served. He is fluent in Korean and has expressed a desire to participate in more Korean productions. Min is also a second cousin to actress Ashley Park.
Min began his acting career in 2012, with early appearances in television series such as ‘Faking It’, ‘CSI: Cyber’, and ‘Pure Genius’. He established a significant collaboration with Wong Fu Productions, an independent film company in Los Angeles, starring in their 2017 short film ‘How I Became an Adult’ and the 2019 web series ‘Dating After College’. His breakthrough role came in 2019 when he was cast as Ben Hargreeves in the Netflix original series ‘The Umbrella Academy’. Initially a recurring character, he was promoted to the main cast for the second season, developing the character from the ground up.
In April 2019, Min secured a main role in the science fiction film ‘After Yang’, where he starred opposite Colin Farrell. This film, released in 2021, further cemented his presence in the industry. He has continued to take on diverse roles, including his portrayal of Edwin in the 2023 limited series ‘Beef’ and Ben in the 2023 film ‘Shortcomings’. Additionally, Min is an active UNICEF Ambassador, a role he undertook in 2022 after having been involved with UNICEF since 2020.
