An expert in innovation policy, Kamiel Gabriel is a leading scientist and thought leader, speaking to audiences around the world.
As the University of Ontario’s Institute of Technology (UOIT) founding Associate Provost of Research and Graduate Programs, Gabriel has significantly increased the institute’s research portfolio, making it one of the top 50 research universities in Canada. Of his other work, Gabriel writes extensively on innovation, having published his highly-regarded book The Anatomy of Innovation: What makes innovation succeed in the 21st century? In 2009 Gabriel was honoured when he was seconded as the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Research at the Ontario Ministry of Research & Innovation, becoming their first Science Advisor in history. Currently working with the Abu Dhabi, U.A.E government, Gabriel is assisting in their establishment of a Research Funding Agency, which aims to support research in both federal and higher education institutes across the country.
Renowned throughout his field, Gabriel holds a number of impressive qualifications, including a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alexandria in Egypt, as well as a PhD from Canada’s University of Manitoba. He also holds a diploma in Space Science from the French International Space University and an MBA from the Edwards School of Business. Of his other achievements, Gabriel is also an elected fellow at the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Science, Society and Policy and a fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
