Kao Miura was born on June 8, 2005, in Tokyo, Japan, and resides in Yokohama. He began his skating career in 2009. By 2017, he became the Japanese national novice champion, an achievement that led to his invitation to skate in the gala at the 2017 NHK Trophy. Miura continued his ascent through the ranks, making his Junior Grand Prix debut in Latvia in 2019, where he finished seventh and became the youngest Japanese skater to land a quadruple toe loop in international competition. The 2020-21 season saw him secure a silver medal at the Japan Junior Championships and make his Grand Prix debut at the 2020 NHK Trophy, finishing sixth.
The 2021-22 season marked a significant turning point for Miura. He earned a bronze medal at the 2022 Four Continents Championships, his first ISU championship medal. Although a quadriceps injury forced his withdrawal from the 2022 World Championships, he recovered to compete at the 2022 World Junior Championships, finishing thirteenth. The 2022-23 season was particularly successful, with Miura winning two consecutive Grand Prix silver medals at the 2022 Skate America and 2022 Skate Canada International, which qualified him for the Grand Prix Final. He then achieved a major victory at the 2023 Four Continents Championships, securing the gold medal. This was followed by his triumph at the 2023 World Junior Championships in Calgary, where he clinched the gold medal, marking his second ISU championship win of the year.
In the 2023-24 season, Miura continued to build on his successes, winning gold at the 2023 CS Finlandia Trophy and the 2023 Grand Prix of Espoo. He also earned a silver medal at the 2023 Skate Canada International and claimed first place at the 2024 Tallink Hotels Cup. Throughout these seasons, Miura demonstrated consistent performance at national championships, placing fourth in both the 2021-22 and 2023-24 Japan Championships. He is currently a university student and maintains interests in watching baseball games.
