Karim Benzemais a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for the French National team and Spain’s Real Madrid. His abundant goal scoring has seen him described as “a potent finisher from inside the box and an “immensely talented striker”.
Benzema started his football career with local club Bron Terraillon and made his professional debut with Lyon in the 2004–05 season, appearing sporadically in the first three seasons as his team nabbed three titles in that span. Benzema’s breakthrough year occurred in the 2007-08 season when he scored over 30 goals; helping Lyon reach their 7th consecutive league title. His outstanding performances earnt him the (UNFP) League 1 Player of the Year as well as Team of the Year. As the league’s top scorer, Benzema received the Bravo Award by esteemed magazine Guerin Sportivo. In 2009, Benzema transferred to Real Madrid for over €35 million, signing a 6 year contract.
By his third season, Benzema had well and truly established himself, having scored 32 goals he was well on the way to helping the club win the 2011–12 edition of La Liga, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2011. His power and resilience on the pitch has helped Real Madrid win the Champions League four times. Benzema was also named French Player of the Year three times for his performances in 2011,12 and 14.
Benzema’s international career has been comparably successful, earning over 80 caps and representing France at the 2008 and 2012 UEFA European Championship as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
