Mads Hermansen signed a five-year deal with Leicester City from Brøndby IF on July 18, 2023. He immediately became the number one goalkeeper and played a crucial role in the team's 2023–24 EFL Championship title win and subsequent promotion back to the Premier League. His performances earned him a spot in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.
Mads Hermansen, born on July 11, 2000, in Odense, Denmark, began his youth football career at Næsby. He transitioned to a goalkeeper at the age of ten due to achilles tendinitis, a pivotal moment that shaped his career path. In September 2015, Hermansen joined Brøndby IF’s youth academy, and by the 2019–20 season, he was promoted to the first team. His professional debut occurred on November 5, 2020, in a Danish Cup match for Brøndby. The team secured the Danish Superliga title in the 2020–21 season, though Hermansen primarily served as a backup goalkeeper during this period.
Following the departure of Marvin Schwäbe, Hermansen became Brøndby’s starting goalkeeper. He made his Danish Superliga debut on July 18, 2021, and his European debut in the UEFA Champions League play-off round against Red Bull Salzburg on August 17, 2021, where he showcased vital saves. His consistent strong performances led to him being named Brøndby Player of the Year in 2022. On July 18, 2023, Hermansen signed a five-year deal with EFL Championship club Leicester City. He made his competitive debut for Leicester on the opening matchday of the 2023–24 season, contributing to a 2–1 league victory against Coventry City.
