Karley Sciortino was born in Highland, Ulster County, New York, and raised in an Italian-American Catholic family upstate. She later moved to London at age 17 to attend drama school, though she subsequently dropped out. In 2007, while living in a squatting commune in London, Sciortino launched her blog, Slutever. Initially, the blog documented her and her roommates’ sexual experiences, evolving into a platform for exploring and chronicling sexual experimentation. This foundation established her public profile as a writer and commentator on sexuality.
Her career progressed significantly with the expansion of Slutever into a multimedia franchise. In 2012, Sciortino and producer Adri Murguia created a web series for Vice, also titled Slutever, which ran for three seasons. This series adopted a journalistic approach to examining various facets of modern sexuality. Building on this success, Sciortino co-created the Viceland television series, Slutever, with Murguia in 2017, taking over as host and executive producer. This show further delved into diverse topics, from AI sex robots to transgender experiences, airing its second season in 2019. In February 2018, her memoir, ‘Slutever: Dispatches from an Autonomous Woman in a Post Shame World,’ was published by Grand Central Publishing.
Beyond her work with Slutever, Sciortino has contributed to other notable projects. She writes the online sex and relationships column ‘Breathless’ for Vogue. In 2017, she appeared as an escort in ‘Side Hustle,’ Episode 3 of Season 2 of Joe Swanberg’s Netflix series ‘Easy.’ In 2019, Sciortino co-wrote the first season and served as a consulting producer for ‘Now Apocalypse,’ a surreal comedy television series on Starz, co-written with Gregg Araki and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. This series was canceled after one season. In 2023, she hosted and produced the limited podcast series ‘Sanctum Unmasked’ from iHeart Radio, which documented the history of an elite sex club.
