Kayla Skrlik, born on September 10, 1997, in McLennan, Alberta, has established herself as a prominent Canadian curler based out of the Garrison Curling Club in Calgary. Her curling career began to gain significant attention when she skipped Team Alberta at the 2016 U18 International Curling Championships, demonstrating early potential by achieving a 3–2 round-robin record. Building on this foundation, she later represented Alberta at the 2018 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, guiding her team to a 7–3 record and securing a fourth-place finish, narrowly missing the playoffs. A notable early achievement in her junior career was leading Northern Alberta to a gold medal at the 2014 Arctic Winter Games.
Skrlik’s transition from the junior circuit to the World Curling Tour saw her team gain momentum during the 2019–20 season. This period was marked by two significant tour victories: the Medicine Hat Charity Classic and The Good Times Bonspiel. These successes led to her team representing Canada at the 2019 Changan Ford International Curling Elite. The 2022–23 season also proved to be a breakout year, culminating in a win at the Ladies Alberta Open and, crucially, the 2023 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Her team’s dominant 7–0 round-robin performance and a dramatic 9–8 victory in the provincial final earned them the right to represent Alberta at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. At this national championship, her team achieved a 4–4 record, emphasizing their competitive standing. Skrlik also holds a professional role as a Business Transformation Consultant at IBM, balancing her athletic career with corporate responsibilities.
The 2024–25 season further highlighted Skrlik’s career progression. With a refined team lineup including Margot Flemming, Ashton Skrlik, and Geri-Lynn Ramsay, she secured her second Alberta Women’s Curling Championship, defeating Nicky Kaufman. This victory qualified her team for the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, where they finished 4th after a 6–2 round-robin record. On the Tour, her team continued its success with a second-place finish at the 2024 PointsBet Invitational and a win at the Martensville International. These achievements paved the way for their first appearance in a Tier 1 Grand Slam of Curling event, the 2025 Masters, signifying her solid presence within elite curling. Skrlik, who is half Japanese, has also been recognized for leading a “BIPOC majority” team at the Hearts, reflecting her diverse background.
