Kerri Lee Walsh Jennings was born on August 15, 1978, in Santa Clara, California. Her early athletic career included playing both volleyball and basketball at Archbishop Mitty High School, where she led both teams to state championships in 1995 and her volleyball team to three state championships (1993, 1994, 1995). She was recognized as the Gatorade National High School Volleyball Player of the Year in 1996, the first recipient of this award. She continued her volleyball career at Stanford University, earning first-team All-American honors for four consecutive years and contributing to two NCAA championship titles in 1996 and 1997. Walsh Jennings graduated from Stanford in 2001 with a B.A. in American studies and was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Pac-12 Hall of Honor in 2018.
Walsh Jennings transitioned to professional beach volleyball and formed a partnership with Misty May-Treanor in 2001. This partnership became one of the most successful in beach volleyball history. They achieved remarkable success, including a record 112 consecutive match wins and 19 consecutive tournament titles from 2007 to 2008. Their Olympic career together saw them win three consecutive gold medals in 2004 (Athens), 2008 (Beijing), and 2012 (London). In 2016, she earned a bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro with new partner April Ross. Walsh Jennings holds the record for the most career victories in both international and domestic beach volleyball, with 135 wins, and has earned three World Championship titles (2003, 2005, 2007). She also notably competed while pregnant during both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, showcasing exceptional dedication and resilience.
Throughout her extensive career, Walsh Jennings has demonstrated consistent performance and an ability to overcome challenges, including five shoulder surgeries. She founded her company p1440 in 2018, aiming to further develop the sport of beach volleyball. Her achievements and impact on the sport led to her induction into the USOPC Hall of Fame, Class of 2025. Her media appearances include roles in ‘CSI: Miami’ (2006), hosting a radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio, participating in ‘Shaq Vs.’ (2009), the ESPN The Magazine ‘Body Issue’ (2013), ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, and ‘Celebrity Wife Swap’ (2015).
