Kevin De Bruyne was born on June 28, 1991, in Drongen, Belgium. He began his football journey with local club KVV Drongen in 1997, later joining KAA Gent in 1999 where he developed fundamental skills. In 2005, he moved to Genk, progressing through their youth system and making his senior debut in 2008. He became a regular player at Genk, significantly contributing to their 2010–11 Belgian Pro League title win. His performances led to a transfer to Chelsea in 2012, followed by a successful loan spell at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, where he honed his abilities as a central midfielder.
De Bruyne’s career progressed with a permanent move to VfL Wolfsburg in 2014 for £18 million. There, he established himself as a prominent player in the Bundesliga, achieving a record 21 assists in the 2014–15 season and winning the DFB-Pokal. His consistent high-level performance garnered attention, resulting in a club-record transfer to Manchester City in 2015 for £55 million. Over ten seasons with Manchester City, he made 422 appearances, securing six Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups, and a UEFA Champions League title. He was integral to City’s historic continental treble in 2022–23 and was consistently recognized as one of the best players in the Premier League, earning the Player of the Season award twice.
After a distinguished career at Manchester City, De Bruyne announced his departure in April 2025, moving to Serie A club Napoli on a free transfer in June 2025. He quickly made an impact, scoring on his league debut. Internationally, De Bruyne has been a key figure for the Belgium national team since his debut in 2010, earning over 110 caps and scoring 36 goals. He participated in multiple FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship tournaments, notably contributing to Belgium’s third-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. His consistent presence, vision, passing range, and goal-scoring ability have cemented his status as one of football’s elite midfielders.
