Kevin Moran distinguished himself in Gaelic football, notably winning two All-Ireland Senior Football Championships in 1976 and 1977 with the Dublin county senior team. His performance in the 1976 championship earned him a prestigious All-Star award for his significant contributions to Dublin’s success. Moran further cemented his early career achievements by winning the National Football League with Dublin in the 197677 season, showcasing his formidable athletic prowess. Moran then transitioned to professional association football, signing with Manchester United in February 1978 after being scouted by Billy Behan.
He made his senior debut for the club in April 1979 and became a regular in the first team by the 198081 season, under manager Ron Atkinson. As a formidable centre-back, Moran was instrumental in Manchester United’s triumphant FA Cup campaigns, securing victories in both 1983 and 1985. His decade-long tenure at Old Trafford concluded in 1988, with his final eighteen months under the management of Alex Ferguson. He also notably became the first player sent off in an FA Cup Final in 1985.
He was a pivotal player in their qualification for UEFA Euro 1988 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup, and a squad member for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. His outstanding international contributions were recognized with the FAI Senior International Player of the Year award in 1989. Moran’s playing career concluded with his retirement after the 199394 season, after which he pivoted into sports management and media. In 1994, he co-founded Proactive Sports Management, a prominent football agency, alongside Paul Stretford and Jesper Olsen.
Beyond agency management, Moran has contributed his expertise as a pundit for TV3. He currently serves on the board of the Sports Surgery Clinic (SSC), an esteemed institution founded by his brother Ray Moran, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the sports industry.
