Kevin Mckidd

Kevin McKidd was born on August 9, 1973, in Elgin, Scotland. His early life included working at The Macallan distillery and with coppersmiths. He initially pursued engineering at the University of Edinburgh but later transitioned to acting, studying Drama at Queen Margaret University and joining its Bedlam Theatre company. McKidd gained early recognition for his role as Malky Johnson in “Small Faces” (1995) and as Tommy in “Trainspotting” (1996). His career continued with roles in various film productions, including “Topsy-Turvy” (1999) and “Dog Soldiers” (2002).

McKidd’s career progressed with significant roles in television series. He portrayed Lucius Vorenus in the HBO/BBC series “Rome” (2005–2007), a role that garnered critical acclaim. Following this, he took on the lead role of Dan Vasser in the NBC fantasy series “Journeyman” (2007). A major turning point in his career arrived in 2008 when he joined the cast of the medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr. Owen Hunt. He later expanded his involvement with the series, making his directorial debut in its seventh season. In August 2015, McKidd became a U.S. citizen.

Beyond acting in live-action productions, McKidd has also contributed his voice to animated projects and video games. He voiced Jezz Torrent in “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” (2002) and Captain John “Soap” MacTavish in “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” (2009) and “Modern Warfare 3” (2011). In 2012, he lent his voice to the characters Lord MacGuffin and Young MacGuffin in the Disney/Pixar film “Brave.” He also released a Scottish folk music album, “The Speyside Sessions,” in 2012, with proceeds benefiting Save the Children. His work includes continued directorial efforts for “Grey’s Anatomy” and roles in films like “It Ends With Us” (2024).
