Kyle Allen McCord was born on September 19, 2002, in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. He attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he played high school football with future teammate Marvin Harrison Jr. McCord received his first college scholarship offer from Central Michigan before starting his freshman year of high school. As a sophomore, he set a school record with 2,883 passing yards and 35 touchdown passes. During his junior season, McCord passed for 2,399 yards and 31 touchdowns, despite missing the final four games due to injury. In his senior year, he completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,582 yards and 21 touchdowns, earning the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year award. He concluded his high school career with a Philadelphia Catholic League record of 6,887 passing yards and 88 touchdown passes.
McCord was initially rated a four-star recruit and committed to Ohio State during his sophomore year. He was later re-ranked as a five-star prospect by 247Sports as a junior. At Ohio State, McCord primarily served as a backup to C.J. Stroud during his freshman season, starting one game against Akron where he completed 13 of 18 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns, earning Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week honors. In 2023, he became the starting quarterback for Ohio State, leading a game-winning drive against Notre Dame. Following the 2023 season, McCord transferred to Syracuse University. At Syracuse, he enjoyed a highly successful season, breaking multiple program records, including 29 passing touchdowns. He became the program’s first 4,000-yard passer with 4,326 yards and concluded the regular season ranked No. 1 nationally in total passing yards, attempts, completions, and passing yards per game, culminating in him being named second-team All-ACC. McCord finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2024 and also broke Deshaun Watson’s ACC single-season passing yards record with 4,779 yards.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, McCord was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round as the 181st overall pick. He was later waived and re-signed to the practice squad. In January 2026, he signed a reserve/futures contract with the Green Bay Packers. By August 2026, McCord was traded to the Miami Dolphins, where he currently serves as a quarterback.
