Best known for her role in Eastenders as Mary Smith the ‘wayward punk,’ Linda Davidson was one of the soap opera’s original characters, acting from 1985 to 1988, and then returning in 2019 for a one episode special. During Davidson’s iconic time on the show, audiences saw her participate in somewhat elicit yet major taboo storylines involving drugs, prostitution and unemployment, to name a few.
Soon after Davidson quit Eastenders, she was snapped up by British sitcom First of the Summer Wine, which aired on BBC1. She then had an impressive succession of credits, including BBC’s Casualty and The House of Eliott, ITV’s The Bill and The Guinea Pig. Davidson was a natural on stage which inevitably earnt her various theatre performances, her most notable feature being The Rocky Horror Show, playing Columbia in the West End.
Following her acting career, Davidson noticed her passions lay with writing and she soon became a TV sit-com writer, voiceover artist and director. She made invaluable contributions to BBC Online; as well as Tomorrow’s World and Good Homes online. Davidson’s undeniable writing ability saw her lead all of the BBC’s Drama websites and in the 2000’s, she was appointed editor of E4 interactive. She also joined Discovery Communications, an American mass media company based in New York City.
