Johann Urb was born in Tallinn, Estonia, on January 24, 1977. At the age of ten, he relocated to Finland with his mother and stepfather, where he spent his formative years in Tampere. At seventeen, Urb moved to New York to live with his father, where he began a modeling career, which subsequently led to acting opportunities. He furthered his acting education at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
His acting career began with a minor role in the film “Zoolander” in 2001, followed by appearances in the short film “Fear of Feathers” (2003) and an episode of “CSI: Miami” (2003). In 2004, he secured a part in the TV series “The Mountain.” Urb gained increased recognition with significant film roles, including his portrayal of Sasha in Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic “2012” (2009) and Leon S. Kennedy in “Resident Evil: Retribution” (2012). He has also appeared in television series such as “Eastwick” (2009), “NCIS” (2014) as U.S. Park Ranger Burt Moore, and “Arrow” (2017-2018) as Vincent Sobel / Vigilante, and “The Lincoln Lawyer” (2022) as Jan Rilz.
Beyond acting, Johann Urb, alongside his wife Rachel Pringle Urb, works as a couples coach, focusing on methods like The Pyramid Breath Method and Creation Meditation. He also serves as an official ‘World Cleanup Day Ambassador,’ leveraging his public platform for environmental advocacy.
