Lindsay Miles, originally from the UK, relocated to Perth, Australia. Her personal journey into sustainable living began in 2012 when she encountered a local library flyer challenging individuals to abstain from plastic for a month and attended a screening of the documentary ‘Bag It’. This event served as a turning point, revealing the pervasive presence of plastic in her daily life and inspiring a commitment beyond the initial challenge. She realized that fostering environmental change starts with individual action, leading her to initiate ‘Treading My Own Path’ in 2013 as a website to share her experiences and insights. The platform has since evolved into a widely recognized sustainable lifestyle website, attracting almost 100,000 monthly visitors and featuring over 300 articles.
Since 2013, Miles has expanded her work beyond her online presence, delivering talks, workshops, and courses on waste reduction and sustainable living to diverse audiences including community groups, schools, workplaces, government departments, conferences, and festivals. A significant career milestone was her TEDxPerth talk on ‘the non-disposable life’ in 2016. Her expertise has also led to interviews and features in various media outlets, including the BBC, ABC, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, WA Today, Channel 7, and Channel 9. She was also a founding Director of the Plastic Free Foundation, the non-profit organization responsible for the global Plastic Free July campaign.
Miles is an accomplished author, having published two books that are available globally. Her first book, ‘Less Stuff’, was released in 2019 by Hardie Grant books, focusing on re-evaluating personal relationships with possessions from a zero-waste perspective. Her second book, ‘The Less Waste No Fuss Kitchen’, was published in June 2020 in Australia, the UK, the USA, and Canada. She continues to produce content through a weekly blog and a monthly newsletter, and offers resources and an online course called ‘WASTELESS’, a step-by-step program designed to help participants halve their waste in 60 days.
