About

Lindsey Jacobellis was born on August 19, 1985, in Danbury, Connecticut. She spent her early years in Danbury and southern Vermont, where her parents encouraged her and her older brother, Ben, to participate in various sports. Initially a skier, Jacobellis transitioned to snowboarding around the age of eight after her family’s home burned, leading to the necessity of acquiring new equipment. She attended Stratton Mountain School, a high school in Vermont known for its focus on training winter athletes, graduating in 2003. Competing primarily against boys in her early career, she developed a competitive approach to the sport. She quickly became a prominent figure, making her Olympic debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where she earned a silver medal in snowboard cross despite a fall near the finish line.

Throughout her career, Jacobellis dominated snowboard cross, securing numerous titles. She has won ten X Games gold medals, demonstrating consistent top-level performance in her discipline. Her World Championship career includes gold medals in 2005 (Whistler), 2007 (Arosa), 2011 (La Molina), 2015 (Kreischberg), 2017 (Sierra Nevada), and a mixed team gold in 2019 (Utah). Her Olympic journey involved participating in five Winter Games. After her 2006 silver, she faced challenges in subsequent Olympics, including disqualification at the 2010 Vancouver Games and a crash at the 2014 Sochi Games. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, she finished fourth, narrowly missing the podium.

The culmination of her Olympic pursuit came at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. After many years of competition, Jacobellis won her first Olympic gold medal in women’s snowboard cross, ending a significant gold medal drought for the U.S. in those Games. She further cemented her legacy by winning a second gold medal in the inaugural mixed team snowboard cross event, alongside teammate Nick Baumgartner. Beyond her athletic achievements, Jacobellis has engaged in television appearances, including MTV’s “The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros,” and has been recognized for her advocacy for aspiring snowboarders through initiatives like Super Girl Snow Pro.
