Elizabeth Bruna Watson was born on March 30, 1994, in Carlton, Victoria, and raised in Pascoe Vale South. She began playing netball at age 12, representing Victoria at various junior levels and winning the Australian National Netball Championships with the Victoria under-19 team in 2012. In 2013, Watson played for City West Falcons in the Victorian Netball League, helping them secure the VNL title and earning the Player of the Grand Final award. That same year, she captained Victorian Flames in the Australian Netball League, where she was named the Flames MVP.
Watson joined the Melbourne Vixens in 2014, making her debut in the ANZ Championship. She was part of the Vixens’ championship-winning team in 2014, receiving the Vixens’ Rookie of the Year award. Her career with the Vixens continued through 2023, where she also co-captained the team to a Super Netball premiership in 2020. Watson received the Sharelle McMahon Medal as the Vixens’ MVP in 2017 and 2018. Across four consecutive seasons from 2017 to 2020, she was named to the Super Netball Team of the Year as a wing attack. In 2024, Watson transitioned to the Sunshine Coast Lightning, signing a three-year deal.
Watson made her senior international debut for Australia, known as the Diamonds, in 2016. She earned silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2019 Netball World Cup. In 2018 and again in 2022, she was honored with the Liz Ellis Diamond award and named Australian International Player of the Year. Watson captained the Australian team during the 2021 Constellation Cup and was officially confirmed as Australia’s captain in September 2021. She led the Australian teams to gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Netball World Cup. Throughout her career, Watson has accumulated 91 test caps.
