With a wrestling obsession dating back to the age of three, it must have been a dream come true for Lucas “The Standout” Steel to receive approval from none other than Hulk Hogan in 2018. Though Hogan’s endorsement has undoubtedly given Steel a confidence boost, Steel’s long string of explosive performances in the ring gave no suggestion that he was in need of one.
In another life, Lucas Steel could have become a world-class boxer: towering over his opponents at 6’6”, Steel nurtured a promising amateur boxing career peppered with trophies and shared scouting sessions with Luke Campbell, who went on to become an Olympic Gold medallist in the sport. Steel, however, chose to follow his heart and channel his full efforts into wrestling, training at the New Generation Wrestling facility just around the corner from his home.
His remarkable talents and incomparable work ethic earned Steel a regular place in New Generation events around the UK, making his debut with US pay-per-view giant IMPACT Wrestling in 2018 alongside rising stars Robbie X, Adam Maxted and Jake McCluskey. In fact, ever since his debut NGW victory against crowd favourite Amir Jordan at Hull City Hall, – a venue in which he watched professional wrestling as a child – Steel’s power and domination in the ring have more than earned him the rights to his fearsome nickname.
