United Kingdom Lucy Boynton has established herself as a versatile British-American actress, transitioning from early independent film and television roles to international recognition in major productions.
Lucy Boynton became the global ambassador for Chanel's Coco Crush 2024 campaign, joining other house ambassadors. She has been a friend of the brand since 2020 and was appointed its face, attending events such as the Métiers d'Art 2023-24 show. She also switched on the Chanel N°5 lights on Mayfair's Bond Street as part of a brand collaboration.
Born on January 17, 1994, in New York, New York, Lucy Boynton was raised in London, England, where her father worked as the Group Travel Editor for the Telegraph Media Group and her mother as a travel writer. Her acting career began at the age of twelve, making her film debut in “Miss Potter” (2006) as the young Beatrix Potter. This early start was followed by her television debut the following year in the BBC film “Ballet Shoes” (2007). Boynton continued to build her resume primarily in British television, appearing as Margaret Dashwood in the miniseries “Sense and Sensibility” (BBC One, 2008), Henrietta Norton in the TV biopic “Mo” (Channel 4, 2010), and guest roles in series such as “Lewis” (ITV, 2011-15), “Borgia” (Netflix/Canal+, 2011-14), “Endeavour” (ITV, 2013-), “Law & Order: UK” (ITV, 2009-2014), and “Life in Squares” (BBC Two, 2015).
Boynton’s career progressed into film roles, including appearances in critically acclaimed horror films like “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” (2015) and “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” (2016), both directed by Osgood Perkins. A significant turning point came with her role in the critically acclaimed indie film “Sing Street” (2016), where she portrayed an aspiring model. Returning to television, she co-starred in the psychological thriller series “Gypsy” (Netflix, 2017) and later appeared as Countess Helena Andrenyi in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017).
The year 2018 marked a definitive breakout for Boynton. She appeared in Gareth Evans’ horror film “Apostle” (2018) before gaining widespread international recognition for her portrayal of Mary Austin, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s partner and confidante, in the highly successful biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018). Her subsequent roles include parts in “The Politician” (2019), “Locked Down” (2021), “The Pale Blue Eye” (2022), “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” (2022), “Chevalier” (2022), “The Ipcress File” (2022), and “The Greatest Hits” (2024). She is also slated to appear in “A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story” (2025). This progression highlights her ability to move between diverse genres and platforms, establishing her presence in both independent and mainstream productions.
