Puerto Rican character actor Luis Guzmán has had a hugely successful career playing policemen, thugs and sidekicks. He has starred in three movies by the pioneering American director Steven Soderbergh – The Limey, Out of Sight and Traffic, and also appeared in three Paul Thomas Anderson movies, Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love and Magnolia. His television credits include CBS medical drama series Code Black, Netflix series Narcos, Showtime comedy-drama Cameron Crowe’s Roadies and How to Make It in America, for which he won a NAMIC Visions Award for his performance. He is also well known for appearing in commercials for Cabot Creamery and Snickers.
Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Guzmán moved to Greenwich Village, New York City as a child. He started out as a social worker occasionally moonlighting as an actor before he began to become more involved in independent films and theatre.
His first role in a major movie came in 1988’s Crocodile Dundee II, and since then he has appeared in numerous films including Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Carlito’s Way, Welcome to Collinwood, Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power, Stonewall and The Salton Sea. Guzmán has also had roles in some of the world’s most popular video games, including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. He has also appeared as a commentator on several VH1 shows including I Love Toys and I Love the 80’s.
