Luke Gazdic is a professional ice hockey player. Born in Ontario, Canada, he has spent almost all of his career to date playing in the NHL and AHL. He currently plays on the left wing for AHL side the San Diego Gulls and enjoys a fearsome reputation as one of the game’s great enforcers. He has made nearly 150 appearances in the NHL and nearly 400 in the AHL.
Gazdic was born into an ice hockey family. His father Mike was an NHL amateur for New York’s Buffalo Sabres, and his two brothers are also professional players. Born in 1989, Gazdic’s career began in 2004 when he joined Ontario Junior Hockey League side North York Rangers. He made one appearance for the side before moving to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (then playing their final season as the Wexford Raiders), making just shy of 50 appearances and scoring 17 goals. After one season, he was snapped up by OHL side Erie Otters. He played for the team for three successful seasons, scoring over 40 goals in over 180 appearances.
In 2008, Gazdic moved south of the border, joining ECHL side the Idaho Steelheads. He then spent three seasons in the AHL with the Texas Stars before being drafted to NHL side the Edmonton Oilers, making his debut for them in 2013. He spent three seasons with the Oilers, making over 100 appearances and endearing himself to the fans. A second NHL spell followed in 2016 with a season at the New Jersey Devils. He then spent time playing in Canada before returning to AHL action with the San Diego Gulls.
