Manny Machado

Manuel “Manny” Arturo Machado was born on July 6, 1992, in Miami, Florida. Raised by his mother, Rosa Machado, his grandfather, Francisco Nunez, and his uncle, Geovanny Brito, Machado developed an early passion for baseball. He attended Brito Miami Private School and committed to Florida International University before being drafted by the Baltimore Orioles with the third overall pick in the 2010 MLB draft. Machado made his MLB debut with the Orioles in August 2012, showcasing his abilities early on by hitting two home runs in his second major league game. His initial career as a shortstop transitioned to third base, a position where he quickly gained recognition for his defensive skills.

Machado’s breakout year came in 2013, when he led the American League in doubles with 51 and earned his first All-Star selection. He also received a Gold Glove Award and the Platinum Glove Award for his defensive performance. After several successful seasons with the Orioles, which included multiple All-Star appearances and numerous offensive records, Machado was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018. He contributed to the Dodgers’ World Series run that year. In 2019, Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with the San Diego Padres, making it one of the richest contracts in North American sports history at the time. With the Padres, he has continued to be a key player, earning additional All-Star selections, All-MLB First Team honors, and Silver Slugger Awards.

Throughout his career, Machado has consistently demonstrated both offensive and defensive prowess. He has achieved significant milestones, such as his 1,000th RBI in 2024 and becoming the Padres’ all-time home run leader in the same year. In 2025, he accumulated his 1,000th career run and 2,000th career hit, further solidifying his place among elite baseball players. Machado has also represented the Dominican Republic national baseball team in the World Baseball Classic (2017, 2023), where he was recognized for his defensive contributions.
