Marcos Acuña

Marcos Javier Acuña was born on October 28, 1991, in Zapala, Neuquén, Argentina. He began his youth football training at Club Don Bosco in his hometown, initially playing as a left wing-back. His talent was recognized early, leading to trials at various clubs in Buenos Aires.

Acuña commenced his senior professional career at Ferro Carril Oeste, making his debut in 2009. He spent several seasons with Ferro, showcasing his ability to provide assists to teammates. In 2014, he transferred to Racing Club, where he quickly became an integral part of the team, contributing to their 2014 Argentine Primera División championship, which ended a 13-year trophy drought for the club. His career progression continued with a move to Sporting CP in 2017, where he played in the Primeira Liga and later joined Sevilla FC in La Liga in 2020. During his time at Sevilla, he further solidified his reputation as a skilled defender and midfielder, extending his contract until 2025. In 2024, Acuña returned to Argentina to play for CA River Plate.

Internationally, Acuña has been a consistent presence for the Argentina national team since his debut in 2016. He played a crucial role in Argentina’s triumph at the 2021 Copa América and was a key member of the squad that won the FIFA World Cup in 2022. He also participated in the 2018 World Cup and the 2024 Copa América, securing another title. His career highlights include multiple domestic cup wins in Portugal with Sporting CP, a UEFA Europa League title with Sevilla in 2023, and individual accolades such as being the Argentine Primera División top assist provider in 2016–17 and being named to the La Liga Team of the Season in 2021–22.
