Somewhere in the coniferous forests of British Columbia is a compound with Bob Marley posters, tiki masks, and more weed paraphernalia and idols than anywhere else in the world. Every week, the guy who lives among all of this stuff sends out video reports on YouTube about nothing in particular. This is Marijuana Man.
In a video called “floating” with the description “marijuana man get high,” you see Marijuana Man wearing a loose tie over a black basketball jersey and yelling “FIRE IN THE HOLE!” before smoking from a huge octopus bong. In another, you see him take a bubble bath and say, “You know what goes great with a bath?” Weed, just so you know. After a few minutes, he falls asleep. He has also uploaded a video called “Marijuana Man reads some inspiring words from the Bible.”
A lot of people have built an audience by smoking weed on camera, but usually it’s based on a central idea. Marijuana Man, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to care much whether people are watching or not. He believes that the reason his videos are so popular is that he doesn’t try to teach his audience anything. He claims that all the videos about weed are meant to teach people something, featuring people who can’t stop talking about the pot and where it was grown. In his view, however, pot is just boring. Marijuana Man makes a living of around $6500 a month from his various social media exploits.
