Marilu Henner

Marilu Henner was born Mary Lucy Denise Pudlowski on April 6, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. Her career began in 1971, originating the role of Marty Maraschino in the Kingston Mines production of the musical “Grease.” She later performed in the national touring company with John Travolta and continued her theatrical success with various Broadway credits, including revivals of “Pal Joey” and “Chicago,” as well as “Over Here!” and “Social Security.” Henner’s early film appearances included the 1977 comedy-drama “Between the Lines” and the 1978 film “Bloodbrothers.” These early roles established her in the entertainment industry.

Henner achieved prominence with her breakthrough role as Elaine O’Connor Nardo in the ABC/NBC sitcom “Taxi,” which ran from 1978 to 1983. This role earned her five Golden Globe Award nominations and solidified her status as a recognizable television personality. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, she maintained a consistent presence in film, appearing in co-starring roles in productions such as “Hammett” (1982), “The Man Who Loved Women” (1983), “Cannonball Run II” (1984), and “L.A. Story” (1991). Her role as Trudi in “L.A. Story” garnered an American Comedy Award nomination. From 1990 to 1994, she starred in the CBS sitcom “Evening Shade” opposite Burt Reynolds.

Beyond acting, Marilu Henner has also established herself as an author and health advocate. She has written nine books focusing on diet, health, and memory, including “Total Health Makeover,” which promotes a non-dairy diet, food combining, and exercise. Her personal experience with hyperthymesia, a superior autobiographical memory, led her to serve as a consultant for the CBS drama “Unforgettable” and to write “Total Memory Makeover: Uncover Your Past, Take Charge of Your Future” (2012).
