Mark Andrews was born on September 6, 1995, in Scottsdale, Arizona. His early life included attending Desert Mountain High School, where he excelled as a wide receiver, setting an Arizona high school record for career receptions. At nine years old, Andrews was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, a condition he has managed throughout his athletic journey without hindrance. His commitment to football led him to the University of Oklahoma, where he transitioned to tight end after redshirting his first year in 2014. During his college career from 2015 to 2017, Andrews demonstrated consistent performance, culminating in him winning the John Mackey Award in 2017. He finished his career at Oklahoma with 22 touchdown receptions and 1,765 receiving yards, the most by a tight end in the program’s history. He declared for the NFL Draft in January 2018, foregoing his senior year.
Andrews was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round (86th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He quickly made an impact, recording 34 receptions for 552 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season, leading all rookie tight ends in receiving yards. His career progression saw him earn his first Pro Bowl selection in 2019, where he led all tight ends with ten receiving touchdowns. The 2021 season was a significant milestone, as he set Ravens’ single-season records for receptions (107) and receiving yards (1,361), earning him First-team All-Pro honors and another Pro Bowl selection. He continued his high level of play, securing a third Pro Bowl nomination in 2022.
Injuries impacted his 2023 season, including a cracked fibula and ankle ligament injury, but he returned in January 2024 for the AFC Championship game. In the 2024 season, Andrews continued to demonstrate his value, setting a career-high with 11 receiving touchdowns and becoming the Ravens’ all-time franchise touchdown leader. Throughout his career, Andrews has balanced his professional football commitments with his role as an advocate for individuals with Type 1 Diabetes, serving as a spokesperson and engaging in community outreach. His resilience and consistent performance have established him as a key player for the Baltimore Ravens.
