About

Mark Barron was born on October 27, 1989, in Mobile, Alabama. His athletic career began at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, where he excelled in high school football across multiple positions including running back, wide receiver, and linebacker from 2004 to 2007. During his senior year, he was named MVP of the 2007 Class 5A state championship game, rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns. Barron’s versatility extended to track and field, where he won multiple 5A individual state titles in events such as shot put, long jump, and triple jump in 2008. He was highly recruited, earning a five-star prospect ranking from Scout.com and being recognized as a first-team All-American. He committed to the University of Alabama, turning down offers from prominent programs like Auburn, LSU, and Florida.

Barron’s collegiate career at Alabama, under coach Nick Saban, was marked by significant achievements from 2008 to 2011. As a freshman, he contributed to the team’s kick-off coverage, recording 18 tackles and a sack. His sophomore season in 2009 saw him become a starter at safety, leading the Southeastern Conference with seven interceptions and contributing to Alabama’s BCS National Championship victory. He continued to perform at a high level, earning first-team All-SEC selections and unanimous first-team All-American honors in 2011, culminating in another BCS National Championship win. He recorded 237 career tackles, 12 interceptions, and 22 passes defended during his time with the Crimson Tide. In the 2012 NFL Draft, Barron was selected as a strong safety by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round, seventh overall, marking him as the highest-selected Alabama defensive back in school history. He played for the Buccaneers for two and a half seasons before being traded to the St. Louis Rams in 2014, where he transitioned to the linebacker position.

His NFL career with the Rams, which later became the Los Angeles Rams, included a five-year, $45 million contract signed in 2016. He excelled as a hybrid weakside linebacker, achieving a career-high 118 combined tackles in 2016. Barron consistently demonstrated his impact on the field, reaching the Super Bowl LIII with the Rams in 2019. Following his time with the Rams, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019, where he recorded 82 tackles, three sacks, and an interception. He concluded his NFL playing career with the Denver Broncos in 2020. Throughout his professional career, Barron recorded 710 total tackles, 12 sacks, 9 interceptions, and 42 pass deflections, starting in 102 of 119 games played.
