Mark Malone

Mark Malone has transitioned from a successful NFL quarterback career to an accomplished sports broadcaster, bringing his professional sports insights to audiences across various media platforms. After being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 1980 NFL Draft, Mark Malone transitioned from a distinguished collegiate career into professional football. Malone played quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1980 to 1987, initially serving as an apprentice before becoming a significant starter. He led the Steelers to the AFC Championship Game in 1984, throwing for 2,137 yards and 16 touchdowns that season.

At ESPN, he was a key figure on programs such as ‘NFL 2Night,’ ‘NFL Matchup’ (starting in 1994), and made significant contributions to ‘SportsCenter’ and ‘NFL Countdown.’ Later, Malone moved to WBBM-TV in Chicago, where he served as Sports Director and lead sports anchor, a role that earned him four prestigious Chicago / Midwest Emmy Awards for his outstanding work in broadcast journalism. Malone’s broadcasting expertise extended to national platforms, working as a booth analyst and sideline reporter for Dial Global and as a color commentator for Westwood One’s extensive NFL coverage. He also hosted ‘Under Center with Mark Malone’ for NBC Sports Radio, further solidifying his reputation as a knowledgeable and engaging voice in sports media. In 2019, Malone served as a play-by-play announcer for Bleacher Report Live, covering the Alliance of Football, showcasing his versatility across different sports broadcasting roles.
