Martin Henderson

Martin Henderson was born on October 8, 1974, in Auckland, New Zealand. He began his acting career at age 13, appearing in the local television production “Strangers” (1989). Henderson gained early recognition in his home country by starring as Stuart Neilson in the New Zealand soap opera “Shortland Street” from 1992 to 1995. Following this, he moved to Australia, featuring in productions such as “Echo Point,” “Sweat” (alongside Heath Ledger), “Home and Away,” and “Big Sky.” His role in the Australian film “Kick” earned him an AFI Award nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1999.

In 1997, Henderson relocated to the United States to further his acting career, studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. After a period of auditions, he secured a supporting role in John Woo’s war film “Windtalkers” (2001). A significant turning point came in 2002 when he starred opposite Naomi Watts in the horror film “The Ring.” His career continued with diverse roles, including the romantic film “Bride & Prejudice” (2004) with Aishwarya Rai, and the award-winning “Little Fish” (2005) starring Cate Blanchett. He also performed in a West End theatre production of “Fool for Love” with Juliette Lewis in 2006.

Henderson expanded his television presence, starring in Shonda Rhimes’ series “Off the Map” (2011) and later joining “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr. Nathan Riggs (2015-2017), appearing in 48 episodes. Since 2019, he has held a main role as Jack Sheridan in the Netflix romantic drama “Virgin River,” which has been renewed through its seventh season. His filmography also includes roles in “Everest” (2015), “Miracles from Heaven” (2016), and the horror film “X” (2022). He also diversified his work by directing an episode of “Virgin River” in 2024 and serving as a first assistant director for the short film “Due” (2014).
