Mason Tony Mount was born on January 10, 1999, in Portsmouth, Hampshire. He began his football journey at a young age, training at the academies of Portsmouth and Chelsea by age four, eventually joining Chelsea’s youth system in 2005. Mount progressed through Chelsea’s academy ranks, debuting for the under-18 team in 2014 at age 15 and consistently appearing for the under-21 team by 2016. During his youth career at Chelsea, he won two FA Youth Cups, the UEFA Youth League, and was named Chelsea Academy Player of the Year in 2016–17.
At 18, Mount was promoted to Chelsea’s senior team in 2017. He then gained senior team experience through loan spells, first with Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse Arnhem for the 2017–18 season, where he scored 14 goals in 39 appearances and was named Vitesse Player of the Year. Following this, he joined Championship club Derby County on loan for the 2018–19 season, under manager Frank Lampard, scoring 11 goals in 44 appearances and helping the team reach the Championship play-off final. These loan periods were crucial for his development, preparing him for a breakthrough into Chelsea’s first team.
Mount returned to Chelsea for the 2019–20 season, making his competitive debut in August 2019. He quickly established himself as a key player, winning the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021. He was voted Chelsea’s Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons, 2020–21 and 2021–22. In July 2023, Mount moved to Manchester United for a transfer fee of £55 million, taking on the number seven jersey. His time at United has been affected by injuries, though he contributed to their 2023–24 FA Cup win. Internationally, Mount has represented England at various youth levels and made his senior debut in 2019, participating in UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
