United Kingdom Matthew Rhys is a critically acclaimed Welsh actor known for his roles in television dramas and films, bringing depth and versatility to his characters.
Rhys set up his own production company. It has two projects in development, including an adaptation of a book titled "Operation Julie" and a potential film about Owain Glyndŵr's life.

Rhys invested in a pub in Pennal, Gwynedd, where his father grew up. He supported a public shares offering that raised £450,000 to save the pub, with the community completing the purchase in December 2022.
Rhys owns and rents a charter boat named 'Rarebit' in New York City. The Wheeler boat, constructed circa 1934, was bought and rebuilt by Rhys.

Matthew Rhys Evans was born on November 8, 1974, in Cardiff, Wales. He grew up speaking Welsh and attended Welsh-medium schools. His passion for acting developed early, leading him to play Elvis Presley in a school musical at age 17. This led to his acceptance into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. During his time at RADA, Rhys began his professional acting career, appearing in the BBC police series “Backup” and the film “House of America.” He also returned to Wales to star in the Welsh film “Bydd yn Wrol,” for which he received the Best Actor award at the BAFTA Cymru.
Rhys achieved wider recognition for his role as Kevin Walker in the American family drama series “Brothers & Sisters,” which aired from 2006 to 2011. Following this, he became well-known for his lead role as Philip Jennings in the acclaimed FX spy drama series “The Americans” (2013–2018), for which he earned numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2018 and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2019. In film, Rhys has showcased his talent in diverse roles, portraying Dylan Thomas in “The Edge of Love” (2008), Daniel Ellsberg in “The Post” (2017), and a cynical journalist in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (2019). His work in the HBO period series “Perry Mason” (2020–2023) earned him a third Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor – Television Series Drama.
Beyond acting, Rhys has also ventured into production and directing. He established his own production company, Patagonia, in 2011, which has projects in development including an adaptation of the book “Operation Julie.” He has also invested in community pubs in Wales and owns a charter boat named Rarebit in New York City. Throughout his career, Rhys has maintained a strong connection to his Welsh heritage, supporting Welsh independence and teaching his son the Welsh language. He was honored by Aberystwyth University and accepted into the Gorsedd of the Bards for his contributions to the Welsh language and Wales.
