Max Casella was born in Washington D.C. on June 6, 1967. His father, David Deitch, was a political journalist, and his mother, Doris Casella, worked as a social worker. The family relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Casella spent his high school years. He began his acting career early, securing iconic roles during his youthful period. Notably, he filmed Disney’s “Newsies” while simultaneously appearing as Vinnie Delpino on the television series “Doogie Howser, M.D.” Casella’s path involved navigating a hormonal condition that affected his growth, which initially allowed him to portray younger characters. His career has since broadened to encompass a variety of roles in film, theatre, and voice acting.

Over the years, Casella has accumulated a comprehensive body of work, demonstrating versatility across different mediums. On Broadway, he originated the role of Timon in “The Lion King” in 1997, earning critical recognition. His work in television includes significant roles such as Benny Fazio in “The Sopranos,” a series regular on “Vinyl” for HBO, and recurring roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” His film credits span diverse genres, featuring performances in Academy Award-nominated projects like “Jackie,” as well as collaborations with notable directors including Woody Allen (“Wonder Wheel,” “Blue Jasmine”), Ben Affleck (“Live By Night”), Spike Lee (“Oldboy”), and the Coen Brothers (“Inside Llewyn Davis”).
