Merryn Somerset Webb, star of Channel 4’s hit television show Superscrimpers, Senior Bloomberg columnist and a leading expert on personal finance, economics and financial markets.
Highly regarded as one of the best financial writers around right now, she has won countless awards for her journalism including two prestigious Harold Wincott Awards and a Headline Money Award for Financial Commentator of the Year 2019. She is the author of the critically acclaimed personal finance book aimed at a female audience, Love is Not Enough: A Smart Woman’s Guide to Making (and Keeping) Money , contributes regularly to magazines including Woman and Home, Spectator and Libertine, and has her own columns in Saga and the Sunday Post. She is a regular commentator on financial matters on television and radio, appearing on various shows including the BBC’s Question Time.
After studying History and Economics at Gonville and Caius College and Japanese language at The School of African and Oriental Studies in London University, Somerset Webb moved to Japan where she began to work on business programmes for Japan’s public television station NHK. After a stint as an institutional broker at SBC Warburg she headed back to the UK to take on the role of financial writer for The Week magazine. In 2000, she became launch editor for MoneyWeek, which has since become the UK’s best-selling financial magazine.
