About

Melissa Fumero, born Melissa Gallo on August 19, 1982, in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, developed an interest in acting from a young age. Her Cuban parents made significant sacrifices to support her dream of attending New York University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama in 2003. Shortly after graduating, Fumero secured her professional debut, a recurring role as Adriana Cramer in the soap opera “One Life to Live” from 2004 to 2011, a role she also reprised in two episodes of “All My Children” in 2005. This early exposure provided a foundation in the entertainment industry.

Her career trajectory shifted significantly in 2013 when she landed the lead female role of Amy Santiago in the Fox, and later NBC, comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” This breakthrough role, which she inhabited for 153 episodes until 2021, established her as a prominent comedic actress. During her tenure on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Fumero also made her directorial debut with an episode in 2019. In addition to her live-action work, she has lent her voice to animated series such as Melissa Tarleton in “M.O.D.O.K.” (2021) and Bella Torres in “Digman!” (2023–present). Her film credits include “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” (2009) and “Bar Fight!” (2022).

Beyond acting, Fumero has expanded into directing for television, with credits on shows like “Grand Crew” (2022), “Gordita Chronicles” (2022), and “Primo” (2023). She also co-hosts the comedy podcast “More Better with Stephanie and Melissa.” Her work has earned her recognition, including an Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Television) in 2022 for her performance in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Fumero’s career demonstrates a consistent commitment to diverse roles and creative endeavors, ranging from acting to directing and podcasting.
