About

Michael Rogers was born in California and pursued his education at Stanford University, where he studied physics and creative writing. He also received training in finance and management at the Stanford Business School Executive Program. Rogers began his professional journey as a writer for Rolling Stone, where he covered significant events such as the Asilomar Conference on Recombinant DNA in 1974. A notable early achievement was his investigative article in 1976, which was the first to publicly identify Henrietta Lacks, whose cells became crucial for medical research.

His career progressed with the co-founding of Outside magazine and the launch of Newsweek’s technology column. He earned a National Headliner Award for his coverage of the Chernobyl meltdown and a Distinguished Online Service award from the National Press Club for his reporting on 9/11. For a decade, Rogers served as vice president of The Washington Post Company’s new media division, guiding both the newspaper and Newsweek into the digital age and holding the position of editor and general manager of Newsweek.com. He developed early interactive media projects for entities like LucasFilm and Apple, received patents for multimedia storytelling techniques, and is listed in Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. He was inducted into the Magazine Industry Digital Hall of Fame and received the World Technology Network Award for Lifetime Achievement in Media and Journalism.

From 2006 to 2008, Rogers held the role of futurist-in-residence for The New York Times, and he is a columnist for NBC.com. He is also recognized as a best-selling novelist, with his fiction often exploring the human impact of technology. His recent book, “Email from the Future: Notes from 2084,” is available in various formats. Rogers is a regular guest on major television and radio programs including Good Morning America, the Today Show, PBS, CNN, and the History Channel, and he is a keynote speaker for various companies, government agencies, and organizations globally.
